By Staff Date Posted: 11/1/2006 Becker Underwood Introduces Colorbiotics™ Becker Underwood, a leader in the landscape coatings industry, has been known for its innovative products. It is taking another step to continue its leadership role. Becker Underwood is introducing Colorbiotics as a newly formed business unit of Becker Underwood that will focus exclusively on the research, development, sales, and support of landscape coating products. Colorbiotics will operate as an independent business unit within Becker Underwood and will focus exclusively on the rapidly growing color-enhanced landscape mulch market. The Colorbiotics research, development, sales, and service team has more than 25 years of experience in the landscape coatings industry. This move allows Becker Underwood and Colorbiotics to emphasize research and development in order to create a new generation of products and services to fuel the landscape coatings industry. Colorbiotics will produce the same high-quality colorant products, such as Select® and Mulch Magic®, that customers have come to expect from Becker Underwood. It will also manufacture the Infusion™, Second Harvester®, and Sahara line of coloring systems. Customers will still receive the service and advice they have become accustomed to from Becker Underwood. From this point forward, the pallet and sawmill industries can expect to think of Becker Underwood when it hears the name Colorbiotics. This new division was started to allow Becker Underwood to be able to focus more directly on wood coating products separately from its other coloring product lines. Saw Buddy Monitors, Improves Band SawsThe Saw Buddy monitors the amperage of band resaws and regulates infeeds accordingly. It provides a number of benefits. Resaws cut straighter and faster, according to the company. It also can save up to 30% on saw blades and 20% on energy costs. In addition, it reduces wear on motors and mechanical parts. The Saw Buddy monitors the electrical current flowing through the saw motor thousands of times per second. The data is processed by a computer program to control the speed of the conveyor feeding the wood through the saws. This enables the wood to be cut faster and more precisely. The Saw Buddy works like this. You set the speed indicator to the normal speed you would be running the conveyor. The Saw Buddy will maintain that speed as an average speed while going slower through the hard spots and faster through the rest of the wood. For increased production, the speed indicator may be set to the desired faster speed; Saw buddy will maintain the desired faster speed as an average.
