Itís Time to Vote!

The year 2000, erroneously celebrated as the first year in the new millennium, is the year to stand up and be counted. As I am writing this letter, Super Tuesday in the primaries is literally around the corner. The election this fall promises to be a very important one for small business owners. Decision makers are increasingly making their beliefs heard through both their votes and actions in their industries.

As members of the pallet industry community, Pallet Enterprise readers are now given a simple, painless way of contributing to your future by completing the brief survey that is included on pages 86 and 87 in this issue. Because we know that you are inundated with all kinds of surveys that plead for your attention, I have purposely avoided flooding our readers and friends with a myriad of surveys over the years.

The time has come, however, for you to take out just a couple of minutes and help us by filling out the survey and sending it to me via fax or mail. Fax it to us at 800/397-9153 or mail it to Industrial Reporting, Inc., 1893 D-1 Billingsgate Circle, Richmond, VA 23233.

Readers who prefer the Internet can find a form on our site at www.palletenterprise.com. You can complete your survey online and e-mail it to me.

For 18 years, we have worked closely with pallet people to keep our finger on the pulse of the industry, but I believe that we should now more formally solicit your opinions.

To better navigate the waters of change, we need to know what you like the best and what you think should be changed. We have attempted to make many changes in the past in response to what we hear and what readers have volunteered. But this is the first time in over 18 years of publishing the Enterprise that we have conducted a response survey of our readers. I thank you in advance for your assistance.

All surveys that are returned on or before June 30, 2000 will be eligible for our survey drawing. The winner of the random drawing will receive a yearís free subscription to the Pallet Profile Weekly marketing and management report, a $300 value. Your survey must be completed in its entirely to qualify for the prize drawing. Partially completed surveys may be excluded from the survey results.

Individual responses to this survey are confidential. Your responses will not be shared with anyone other than the survey sponsors. However, the survey sponsors may use or publish selected overall
survey results that are of interest to our readers.

Our industry no longer just meanders along from year to year. We find ourselves facing important issues that vary widely. Something that may not be a big deal one year may become one of the hot issues the next year. The NWPCA is working to select a new president; there is talk about the possibility of regional NWPCA meetings and regional representation; dealing with exports of pallets and pallet lumber has become a buggy issue; and pallet ownership has become a very important topic for everybody in the industry.

How can you voice your opinion about these and other issues? You can start with our simple survey. Also, you can become a regular reader of our Pallet Board discussion board that appears on the Enterprise web site at www.palletenterprise.com. If you are a little bolder, you can even share your opinions with others on the web. Now is the time to voice your opinions! It is impossible for me to talk with every single person in our industry, but all of you are important. Please complete the survey on pages 86 and 87.
